Promoting your Pharmacy to the local community

Getting your Pharmacy noticed can be difficult especially when you're competing with several other Pharmacies on the same high street.

It just seems like a lot of time is needed to put your business out there when you could be providing a service to customers that you already have.

But its a fact if you don’t market your Pharmacy, no one else will.

Before you start spending money on advertising get the basics down.

1. There are lots of different social media choices. Pick one or two that you think make sense for your business and get to grips with those first.

2. Make sure to claim your business in online directories such as Google Places, Yelp and Yahoo.

3. Your website. I’m assuming you already have one if you're reading this, gone are the days when people search the phone book for business adresses. A website is the perfect platform to introduce your business, pharmacy team and the services you provide. So when was the last time you updated it? If you don't have a website now is the time to invest.

4. Let’s face it, if you are running your own your Pharmacy, you are an expert. Use your website to talk about what you know, changes in store and what you are learning along the way – challenges and successes. Remember website content is king and good content will encourage new visitors.

5. Be your own 'Brand Champion' chances are your Pharmacy already has a logo, a business name and a website. Your name and logo and website address are the images that says who you are and what you do. Make sure it reflects your Pharmacy, it should be on everything!

Five marketing ideas which could really make a difference to your business, remember you don't have to do these all yourself some members of staff may find social media easier to handle then others and running your own business means you alreay have a busy schedule. Pick one or two and once you've mastered these move onto the next one.

Be methodical measure your successes but don't forget about it. If you don't market your Pharmacy no - one else will!
